Medical Administrative Assistant Salary

Medical administrative assistants make a competitive salary in the medical profession. Previously, the wage was very low for those working in this profession.

However, their pay rate has increased over the past recent years because of shortages in all types of medical staff, requiring these assistants to take on more duties.

The medical administrative assistant of today is much better paid than in the not too distant past. Shortages in personnel and resources have required offices and clinics to place more work demands on what used to simply be a receptionist position.

This has resulted in more training as well as higher salaries and wages.

The medical administrative assistant salary will vary, depending on state, city and organization.

For example, some private clinics may pay higher salaries than a county AIDS clinic for instance. Also, salaries are often higher in big cities, but not all the time.

Generally, it is the industry that influences the salary more than anything. Some of the top paying industries are insurance, dental, psychiatric and substance abuse.

Annual incomes can top out in the mid to upper forty thousands in some of these sectors. In general, a salary in the low thirties is normal for new professionals.
